Application Process

ICEHA carefully screens the clinical mentor volunteers it sends overseas. Clinical mentors are screened for background, medical and legal certifications, clinical expertise in HIV/AIDS, and ability to handle work in resource-poor settings. ICEHA also trains its clinical mentors in how to effectively provide mentoring in resource-poor settings. The training is mandatory and helps enable volunteers to be immediately effective when they arrive at their volunteer site.

Step 1: Submit an application

  • ICEHA's application consists of a questionnaire, CV and 3 letters of recommendation. The online application is available through the links at the top of the page and your CV should be emailed to .
  • Once you have submitted your questionnaire and CV, we will provide you with information about how to provide the reference letters.

Step 2: Initial screening

  • ICEHA reviews the entire application.
  • ICEHA verifies your license status.

Step 3: Preparatory Workshop

  • After the initial screening, you will be invited to attend ICEHA's next preparatory workshop. For information on when and where the next workshop will be held, click here. Upon successful completion of the workshop, certification will be provided.

Step 4: Program Match

  • When the above steps have been successfully completed, we will have a discussion with you about your skill set, availability, and country preference and then will submit your application to one of our programs in a developing country.

Upon approval of your application to one of our programs, ICEHA will provide you with information about the logistics involved with your assignment (including plane ticket, visa, immunizations recommended, etc.) as well as the National HIV Guidelines for the country where you have been assigned so that you are prepared to provide clinical mentoring within the local context.
